Marriages are hard work, but they are also incredibly rewarding. On Husband Appreciation Day, take a moment to reflect on all the ways your husband makes your life better. Maybe he is always there to lend a listening ear or give sage advice. Perhaps he is the one who always remembers to put the toilet seat down or take out the trash without being asked. Whatever it is that your husband does to make your life easier, be sure to let him know how much you appreciate it.

The history of Husband Appreciation Day

The origins of Husband Appreciation Day are unknown, but the holiday has been celebrated for many years. One theory is that the holiday was created for childless husbands who felt left out on Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Whatever the reason for its creation, Husband Appreciation Day is a day to celebrate all the amazing husbands out there.

By the way, there also is a Wife appreciation day which is on the third Sunday of September.

If you like to celebrate your husband in a big way, there are plenty of ways to do so. Read on for some fun and unique ideas to make your husband feel loved and appreciated.

Ideas to celebrate Husband Appreciation Day

Here are some fun and unique ideas to give you some inspiration for celebrating Husband Appreciation Day:

1. Make a homemade card or write a heartfelt letter.

One of the best ways to show your husband how much you love him is to take the time to write him a love letter. Tell him how much he means to you and what you love most about him. Make sure to be specific! If you’re not a wordsmith, don’t worry. There is nothing wrong with a simple “I love you,” accompanied by a big hug and kiss.

Another great idea is to make your own card. Get creative with some construction paper, markers, and glitter. If you’re not the artsy type, simply write “Happy Husband Appreciation Day!” on the front of a blank card.

2. Make a homemade coupon book.

If you want to get really creative, try making a homemade coupon book filled with things like “One free foot rub,” “Good for one night of watching Whatever You Want on TV,” or “One back scratch. No questions asked.” If you have kids, get them involved too! They can make their own cards or help you with your coupons.

It’s a great way to show your husband how grateful you are for all he does day in and day out.

3. Plan a special date night or weekend getaway.

Of course, you don’t need a special day to show your husband how much you love him, but why not use Husband Appreciation Day as an excuse to do something extra special? Plan a romantic date night or a weekend getaway. Just the two of you. No kids. No distractions. It will be a nice break from the everyday hustle and bustle, and you’ll get to focus on each other.

4. Give him a break from his usual chores.

On Husband Appreciation Day, why not give him a break from his usual chores? If he usually takes care of the laundry, do it for him. If he cooks dinner every night, take over for one night and make his favorite meal. If he mows the lawn, do it for him. He’ll appreciate the break!

4. Cook his favorite meal.

What’s his favorite food? Whatever it is, make it for his special day. Don’t worry about being fancy. It can be as simple as his favorite pizza or a home-cooked meal. Just the fact that you took the time to make something he loves will mean the world to him.

5. Make a special breakfast.

Who doesn’t love breakfast in bed? Surprise your husband with a delicious breakfast in bed. Especially if your husband is a morning person, this will definitely make his day. If you need some ideas, try making pancakes or waffles with his favorite toppings, bacon, eggs, omelets, French toast, or smoothies. And don’t forget the coffee or tea!

6. Give him a thoughtful gift.

Think about what your husband loves and get him a gift that suits his interests. It doesn’t have to be anything expensive. Just something that you know he will appreciate and enjoy. For example, if he loves sports, get him tickets to his favorite team’s next game. If he loves chocolate, get him his favorite chocolate bar. If he loves music, get him a new album by his favorite artist. You get the idea.

7. Spend quality time together.

One of the best ways to show your husband how much you love him is to simply spend time with him. Whether it’s going for a walk, watching his favorite TV show, or just sitting and talking, take the time to connect with him on a deeper level. Let him know that you are there for him and that you appreciate him.

No matter how you choose to show your husband how much you love him, just remember that the most important thing is that he knows you care. A simple “I love you” can go a long way. So on the next Husband Appreciation Day, take the time to let your husband know how much you appreciate him. He’ll be glad you did.
